Hi ladies, Please, please help. I've got a 7 day old baby and breastfeeding is just... awful, really. I wasn't able to have skin to skin at the hospital, then for the first 2 days that we breastfeed my nipples were killing me constantly (not just during the feed). I had about 3 different lactation consultants check his latch and all said it was fine. So I expressed for 2 days after that to give them a break and then we started using nipple shields as it turns out I have flat nipples. Fast forward to being at home for 3 days now - we are still using the shields and feedings are still so, so hard. It's not just the initial latching on that hurts, it's constant pain while he's on. Plus he sucks hard and fast which means everything just hurts so much more!! I'm trying so hard to stick it out even though the hospital said I may have to introduce formula but I don't know how to keep going. It hurts so much to the point where I'm dreading every feed! I'm worried that he's not getting enough too, because even though his nappy count is fine, I can't handle offering him a second go on the breast once I've changed him. He seems content to me but I've just noticed that his skin is also flaking, is this a symptom of not getting enough?? I don't know how long we can keep this up :(
